Test

The final level

Looking back at the whole project, this is the moment I've waited for the most. I absolutely enjoy showing other people my creations and them giving their honest critique and feedback. It's a learning process and a fun one too!

In the following user tests, I asked the users to be as strict as possible! I made sure to look for someone who wouldn't let a detail slip from under his nose, someone who knows the basics of UI/UX design very well and someone who likes to go crazy in apps and search for the slightest mistake. By having these people, I made sure that my app would'nt have as many flaws as from te start.

Every moment of your life is either a test or a celebration.

User test 1: The Eagle-eyed

Flow: When opening the app, the user had a good feeling. It was clean and straight forward. He made sure to test every single button from start to finish! When he got through the login part of the app, he came at the brach page which he found okay, but some things could have been made more clear. De button of the questionmark could just be a questionmark if you put it behind a line of text. This could give problems here.

He had gone through the whole login and demiprofile part of the app and arrived in the official profile page. Again, he tried clicking every button and found out that some of them were not working. I explained that I had some trouble with the animations and with a lot of tries, I found no good way of placing these elements. I said that I also told this in the video I recorded as a safety measure. After this moment, he found 1 small problem of some text being maybe to little, but after that he had a wonderful experience...and so did I!

Problems:

  • Questionmark more clear --> add blue color as link
  • Buttons not working --> if spare time, trying to fix the issue
  • Text too small? --> enlarge

User opinion: "I found your app to be both very interesting but sometimes a bit misleading. Not everything was always clear, so maybe add other buttons like the questionmark button. Still, I like the app a lot and like the animations, they're smooth."

User test 2: The Sage

Flow: When starting the app, she already had a good point to say. One of my buttons might be difficult to press, it's to small and stands close to another interactive field. I immediately noted this and we went on. For a very long time, she was just looking at the pages without doing anything. When I asked her if something was wrong she said that she was looking at certain inconsistencies with my colors since I sometimes use a very dark color on another dark color, but with enough contrast (to my knowledge). Ofcourse, I couldn't distract her and waited for her to find mistakes.

It turned out that when she was done checking out the app, she had the same criteria as user 1 with an added point of sometimes wanting to put too much inside of a space. She gave me the famous saying 'Sometimes, less is more'. Some texts should be shortened or placed differently. At the end, this was her only feedback and criteria.

Problems:

  • Same points as previous user --> find solutions as given above
  • Sometimes a bit too much in one space --> decrease the size of other objects to make room for the text or erase
  • Go deeper in portfolio --> in spare time

User opinion: "It's a fun app that has some thinking behind it's workings, for that I applaud you. Just be careful with certain things like that dark background mixed with other darker elements. For us it's easy to see, but on a tablet of a man with less good eyesight might it be different. Maybe a good tip since it's also important, try revisiting the portfolio. The opportunity you give the user is immense, but we only see a little bit of it. Try and make it a bigger deal!"

User test 3: The savage

Flow: Since the start of the app is very silent and calm, the user remainded focussed on completing the task at hand an getting into the system. Still, he tried every single button he saw if it would do something unexpected... as expected. For him, the fun started when he was working on the demiprofile. For me it was the moment were all my information would come in.

The first thing he wanted was to change his answsers right there and there. Althought there was a not saying that it can be changed after this process, he insisted on wanting to change it then. After him filling everything in and coming to the profile page he started clicking rigt away. Everything that as much looked as a button, he had clicked on. By doing this, he quickly found out that some buttons don't work which he found unfortunate. Again, I was told that if I had more free time I should change it. Since he was purely focussed on pressing every button, it wasn't that educational for me and could I not focus on if he found the app fun or not. I did find some buttons not working when he pressed on them that should be working. That was a light point in this testing. It wasn't a succes as much as I had hoped.

Problems:

  • Mainly buttons that didn't work --> try fixing them in spare time
  • Buttons didn't work that should have worked --> revisit design and check

User opinion: "The app was fun! I found the content present very nice and everything formed one total picture. The app also looked very informative and clear in it's way of communicating. If the app had more people, I think it would be a guaranteed succes.                                Thanks for letting me test it!"
